A Giclee print (pronounced "zheeclay") is a French word meaning "fine spray." Giclees are created from high-resolution digital captures of original artwork and printed with professional format ink-jet printers using archival quality inks. The prints can be made on various surfaces matching the original medium, such as canvas, watercolor, and photobase paper. The results are absolutely beautiful! many people think my photos printed on canvas are actual paintings, and even have a 3-dimensional quality. The quality of the giclee print rivals traditional photographic silver-halide and gelatin printing processes, as well as lithographic reproductions. Giclee prints can be found in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the many Chelsea galleries. Giclees allow artists to print editions as needed, or on-demand. Once an image is digitally archived, additional reproductions can be made and archived files will not deteriorate in quality as negatives and film inherently do. giclee prints can be reproduced to almost any size and onto various surfaces, giving the artist the ability to customize prints for a specific client.
